Super flexible rods may be used through a "T" or cleanout to bend 90 degrees and keep going up the flue. Just always remember to move the rods up the flue whenever the drill is engaged.* There is no need to stroke back and forth like you did with a chimney brush because the strands are cleaning with the edges of the strand material not just with the tips like a 20th century chimney brush. *If you hold the rods stationary in a T for 5 seconds while spinning at the typical 1500 RPM you have bent the rod back and forth 180 degrees 125 times! This will cause fatigue within the rod and lead to early breakage!
